Tell us a little about what you make:
I deeply enjoy the creative process and have been
making art in many different media for most of my life.
Within the past five years or so I have been working mostly
with textiles and creating art quilts. I enjoy the repetitive
process of stitching and exploring the boundaries of quiltmaking.
I enjoy the symbolism of both deconstruction and reconstruction
as represented in the process and project found in quilt
making. I approach each piece through an intuitive process.
I welcome the challenges that arise through improvisational
techniques. I work to produce visual images that engage
viewers to take a closer look and question the details versus
the big picture.
I utilize machine piecing and quilting, hand stitching,
embellishment, and appliqué processes to create art
quilts. I am constantly seeking new techniques and innovative
ways to utilize existing techniques to enhance my work.

I very much enjoy creating custom work.
Formal art training or education: I have a BA with
Fine Art emphasis and have completed a teaching licensure
program for K-12 in Visual Art. I started incorporating
and experimenting with quilt making by stitching on prints,
photographs, and paintings.
I have attended a few quilt making, surface design
workshops in the past few years but other than that have
been persistently reading books and trying various processes
out on my own.
Where do you get your inspiration from? I learned
how to hand quilt from my grandmother about 12 years ago
(give or take a few). I recall the process being very
intimate for me. The talking, stitching, seeing how
my grandmother worked and made choices in her work.
I learned a lot.
I find that I enjoy the intimacy and connectedness of quilt
making. Though I utilize a sewing machine my hands
are connected to the different tools, fabrics, threads,
whatever materials I stitch on. I like the hand contact.
I used to paint often and felt that my hand was somewhat
removed by the brush.
I also like the monotony and repetition of certain points
in the process. It becomes meditative for me.
Initially I was drawn to the concept of form versus function.
Though I do nod at that age old discussion/argument it really
does not hold a significant role as a concept in my work
now.I am inspired by every day life, shapes, lines, music,
fabric, textures, contradiction. I really think that
inspiration can come in just about any form. It all
depends on how we choose to see.
